Last Wednesday I replaced the drain cover and frame, the original handles had rusted through over the years and it was particularly heavy in cast iron, the owner needed something much lighter as they needed to access the drain regularly to empty their caravan toilet. The cast iron one was made to last and was made for the original builders of the property – they really knew what they were doing, the construction of the manhole is still in excellent condition. The old parts will be kept with the house as ‘original features’.
