Another Alcove finished with some strong shelves, these are reclaimed scaffold boards, which are available in short lengths (offcuts from building scaffold where the boards are cut to fit safely round corners and windows etc) for little money. They do however, need a lot of cleaning up and sanding prior to use. Once I cut them to size I like to install them using angled strips which become a clean and unobtrusive method of securely holding up the shelves. the client wanted to use the lower ones for books and the higher 3 for heavy storage boxes, so they needed to be strong – If they can hold up a builder they can hold up a few books!
